The centre of Venice is quite compact and much of it is pedestrianised, making it easy to get around on foot. Water buses and the more expensive motorboat taxis are a popular and convenient way of getting around the canals.

A romantic ride on a gondola is a must for many tourists. Venice is linked by rail to other major Italian and European cities. It is situated on the A4 autostrada, which connects the city with other Italian cities including Milan, Turin and Verona.

The busy Venice Marco Polo International Airport is situated eight miles from the city centre and handles many international flights. It can be reached by bus, car, train and boat. The small Venice Treviso Airport is located 19 miles from the city centre and handles regular charter flights.
